At Toll Brothers, we believe that preserving the natural environment is an integral part of creating a community you’ll be proud to call home. In fact, we make a point of taking advantage of opportunities that benefit the environment. Nationwide, Toll Brothers encourages environmental awareness by partnering with conservation groups such as the National Wildlife Federation and the Audubon Society – earning community certifications for programs such as Backyard Wildlife Habitats and Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries for Golf Courses, respectively. These certifications assure our residents that the natural beauty of their communities will remain a proud legacy for generations to come. Our green commitment also includes energy-efficient residences that help control energy costs and help reduce emissions for a cleaner planet.
The luxurious homes we build are specifically designed to harmonize with the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape. We preserve as much open space as possible, incorporating the existing hills, trees, and ponds. As part of our award-winning efforts, we’ve saved and subsequently transplanted thousands of trees, preserved peaceful creeks, and restored sparkling ponds – and we’ve created community walking trails so residents can enjoy these tranquil settings.
Toll Brothers’ “green” elements include:

Conservation in Toll Brothers Communities
Beyond conserving resources in the manufacture of our homes and maximizing energy efficiency inside our homes, we believe that preserving the natural environment out-of-doors is an integral part of creating a community our home buyers can be proud of. Nationwide, Toll Brothers partners with conservation groups that include:
- The National Wildlife Federation
- Audubon International
In addition, the homes Toll Brothers builds are designed to harmonize with the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape. We preserve as much open space as practical, incorporating and even restoring the existing hills, trees, and ponds. We often preserve or restore waterways, and we plant and transplant thousands of trees annually.
Our commitment to conservation includes:
Smart Growth Practices
Toll Brothers creates distinctive, attractive communities with Smart Growth in mind for a compelling mix of uses, a variety of housing opportunities, and a pedestrian-friendly design.

Environmental Remediation / Land Revitalization
With the increased emphasis on the nation’s urban centers Toll Brothers has responded with a number of urban infill developments and redevelopment ventures. Often, these sites require environmental remediation and creative, design-oriented solutions. To meet the requirements, Toll Brothers utilizes consultants from all facets of the environmental community as well as our own in-house experts.
Green Building Programs
In our continued efforts to do our part in protecting the environment, Toll Brothers supports green building programs where possible. For example, we have participated in Built Green Colorado®, a voluntary environmental building program, since 2004. According to its website, Built Green Colorado® is the largest green building program in the nation, and strives to encourage home builders to produce homes that provide greater energy efficiency, reduce pollution, and preserve natural resources, while also delivering energy savings to the consumer. For a home to receive the Built Green Colorado® designation, it must meet the program's criteria, known as the “Built Green Checklist.”
As another example, where appropriate, Toll Brothers also designates some homes as Energy Star® qualified homes, which means they meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Energy Star® qualified homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code, and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20-30% more efficient than standard homes.
